Movie clip: Dead Poets Society, The Simpsons
Daniels.(Writer),& Baeza,C.(Director).(1994).Secrets of a Successful Marriage[Season 5, episode 26]Mirkin,D.(Producer),The Simpsons. USA: Fox Network.
Haft,S. Junger Witt, P. Thomas,T. (Producer),& Weir,P.(Director). (1989). Dead Poets Society[Motion Picture]. USA:Buena Vista Pictures.
Mr. Keating in this scene uses a unique way of illustrating this point about conformity within a group. By using a physical metaphor to show the underlining persuasion adds a kinesthetic, auditory (the clapping to the beat) and visual (the walking strides the students were watching). He then included the rest of the class in a final demonstration. I chose this clip because it offered a new perspective of a teacher teaching, and unlike many other clips not trying to earn respect of the class.
Homer Simpson in this scene has just been hired to teach a class on keeping a marriage. This demonstrates bad teaching in a few ways. Firstly he does not have a lesson plan and is going off of what comes to his mind. And secondly he does not explain his metaphor: “Eating an orange is a lot like a good marriage.” He also does not listen or teach any of the class.
